Thankful Thursday!

Is it just me, or does it seem like just yesterday I was writing a Thankful Thursday post? I guess time flies when you're having fun being a busy bee! Some days it feels like I live at work. When my desk is in better shape than my house, I know something's not right! Or, maybe it just means that my priorities are the way they should be when I'm spending time at home. I'd much rather spend time with my husband than walk around worrying about keeping everything in perfect order. Yeah... we'll go with that. :)

But, I digress. I'm straying away from the whole point of this post. It's Thankful Thursday, so let's be thankful!

Today, I am thankful for the beautiful sunshine. I know I've mentioned this a lot lately, but that's because it is so refreshing to walk outside at lunch or at the end of the work day (we don't have any windows in the building where I work) and be greeted by an impossibly blue sky and the warmth of the spring sunshine.

I am thankful that my coworkers and I are keeping each other accountable for our fitness goals, and that I will (hopefully) look great in a swimsuit this summer!

I am thankful for walks with my little family (Justin, me, and the pups) on a lovely Wednesday evening.

For popsicles and tank tops and all the signs that summer isn't very far away at all.

For all these things and more, I am thankful. What are you thankful for?

Not Me! Monday

Are you feeling guilty because you forgot about a wet load of laundry for two days and had to wash the entire load again to get that moldy smell out? Ashamed that you woke up so late one morning that one of your dogs threw up because her poor little tummy was empty?

What's that you say? These things only happen to me?

Oh, well. I refuse to 'fess up to my shortcomings. Know why? That's right! Because it's Not Me! Monday!

The other day, Hubby and I decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather we've had lately and grill some hamburgers. Well... our little afternoon grilling session sure did not almost turn into a complete disaster.

While Hubby cleaned and prepared the grill, I set to work in the kitchen making hamburger patties.

I pulled the meat out of the fridge and DID NOT quickly realize that it was still partially frozen.

Being the genius that I am, I most certainly DID NOT put half of the hamburger into a bowl and put it in the microwave to defrost.

About a minute later, I sure DIDN'T open the microwave to find some halfway cooked, brownish, gooey, disgusting mess in the bowl.

I definitely DID NOT quickly dump the nasty mess into the trash can and start over with the remaining meat. I was NOT too afraid to try to defrost the second half of the meat, and so I DIDN'T knead it with my hands - and just about give myself frostbite - trying to warm it up.

Once the patties were made (whew!) and the charcoal was ready, I put our two little patties and a cut-up onion on the grill. My lovely little patties certainly DID NOT stick so badly to the grill that they almost fell completely apart. Hubby and I DID NOT have to maneuver very carefully with a spatula to be able to flip them.

The, um, burgers that we did not make the other day were not actually pretty delicious when all was said and done. :)

What have you NOT been up to lately?

Thankful Thursday

Welcome to another edition of Thankful Thursday at Love and Lattés! On Thursdays, I like to take some time to share the things I am thankful for, and I encourage you to do the same! Let's jump right in, shall we?

Today, I am thankful that I'm feeling much better after that nasty virus I had. On Sunday, I broke down and saw a doctor, and she took one look at my blood (they drew two vials and I got quite woozy.. yuck!) and said it was definitely a virus, but not the flu (they tested and it came back negative). She prescribed rest and fluids. Of course, that night my fever finally broke, and I was able to come back to work on Monday. Each day has been a little better than the one before, and for that, I am very thankful!

I am thankful that my dear, sweet husband felt so bad that I had to miss the NeedToBreathe concert because I was sick, that he bought us two tickets to tomorrow night's concert! This is pretty much our favorite band, and I was so bummed to miss out on such an amazing opportunity. I am so thankful that I'm going to get to see them after all, thanks to my love!

I am also thankful today for all the amazing people who contacted me while I was sick to tell me they were thinking about and praying for me. I was so touched by all the family and friends who cared and worried about me while I was down and out.

What are you thankful for on this lovely Thankful Thursday?

Sick Day

This morning,

I woke up at the usual time,

feeling completely awful.

I just knew I had a fever.

So I took my temperature.

101.9˚.

I hesitated to call in sick,

because I will likely have to take unpaid leave.

But, I obviously couldn't go in

with a temp of 101.9.

So, I have spent today resting,

drinking fluids, and resting some more.

Sick days are no fun at all.

Thankful Thursday

On this Thankful Thursday,

I'm going to keep things short and sweet

because I'm feeling a little "off."

I came home from work with a

very slight low-grade fever,

and I feel achy and tired.

I really really really hope that it's nothing,

and that it will go away quickly,

because I can't afford to miss work tomorrow

and I'm pumped for the NeedToBreathe concert

this Saturday in Charleston!

And speaking of which...

Today, I am thankful for our upcoming plans,

for the chance to go out with my love

and do something fun.

I haven't been anywhere

besides work, home,

and all the places inbetween

in what feels like a very long time.

Today, I am thankful for cheese.

Yes, cheese. I just had the most delightful

slice of Swiss cheese, and man, was it good.

The perfect snack; delicious and good for you,

all at the same time.

I am thankful for the vitamin C

that will hopefully give my immune system

the boost it needs to kick this

whatever-it-is weirdness.

And, as always...

I am thankful that tomorrow is Friday!

What are you thankful for?

Temporary Home

WARNING:

Be sure to have a box of tissues nearby

before you click here.

Hubby finds this song depressing,

but lately it has become one of my favorites.

I see the hope in each verse,

rather than dwelling on the sad parts.

I'm an optimist, what can I say?

It's so true, though.

Whatever you're going through,

whatever your situation,

it's only temporary.

Even this life is temporary.

Which is both scary and wonderful at the same time.

Just a little something to think about today.

This is my temporary home

It's not where I belong

Windows and rooms

That I'm passing through

This is just a stop

On the way to where I'm going

I'm not afraid because I know

This is my temporary home

Not Me! Monday

Have you ever done something that made you feel like you wanted to crawl in a hole?

Ever felt like you were five years old again, and felt totally sheepish when you had to tell someone what you'd done?

Well, I haven't. Nope, not me!

On Saturday, Hubby and I decided to do some yard work, as it was long overdue.

I mowed the front lawn while he sprayed weed killer around the edges of the house.

It was a beautiful day. All was going splendidly.

We moved on to the backyard.

Hubby took over the mowing, and I picked up rocks and sticks, to throw them out of his way.

You know, like a nice, helpful wifey.

I should mention that I've never had very good aim.

You see, there's a nice little sandy patch of ground over by the house.

Since I didn't want to throw rocks and sticks in Hubby's direction, I threw them toward that little sandy patch.

I figured I could always gather them up later and throw them over the fence and out of the yard.

Unfortunately, that little sandy patch happens to be right under a window.

I may not have good aim, but apparently, I do have a good arm, because I threw one of those rocks a little too hard, and a little too high, and instead of landing in the sandy patch,

well... I bet you can guess what happened.

Or, maybe I should say... what didn't happen.

Because I would never, ever do something like this.

Not me, a grown woman of 24!

What have you not been up to lately?

Today, in Pictures

Today the sunshine is just beautiful...

Ellie sure seems pleased with the weather.

Daisy, too!

Susu belongs to my in-laws.
We're borrowing her for the weekend
while they play at the beach.
She is quite happy today, too!

The tree in our front yard is finally green!

And these cute little purple flowers (weeds?)
are sprouting up everywhere.
Spring has sprung!
